Mill Cottage has a truly idyllic location being set in the village of Batcombe which is definitely one of the prettiest villages in this part of Somerset and it is made even more desirable by the fact that it is well away from main roads, set amongst rolling hills and tree lined valleys. This unspoilt valley is rightly designated a Conservation Area. Although a very quiet location, Batcombe is an active village with an excellent public house which organises village events, a smart and busy village hall that does cinema nights, a lovely village playground and a stunning village church. Local shopping can be found in nearby Bruton (about 4 miles away) that has the renowned 'At the Chapel' restaurant and cafe, several other restaurants and cafes including Osip and The Hive, numerous independent shops and the world famous Hauser and Wirth Gallery. About 8 miles away is the larger town of Frome that is famous for being a creative hub, plus having all the usual amenities expected in a town including Sainsburys, a cinema, schools and a local train station. For more serious shopping and business, Bath is approx 20 miles way. About 6 miles away is the local town of Shepton Mallet that holds regular farmers markets and has several supermarkets and a shopping park that has some large chain stores. Babington House private members club with restaurants, cafes, pools, cinema, spa, gym, cricket, tennis etc is about 15 minutes away. Batcombe is about 5 miles from Castle Cary mainline railway station (London Paddington in under 2 hours) , Gillingham station about 15 miles away has a direct service to London Waterloo plus Bristol airport is about 25 miles and the A303 is about 9 miles away. This area has an excellent range of both state and independent schools. In Bruton there is a primary school, plus Sexeys state run boarding school (which takes day pupils too) and two very good independent schools namely Kings Bruton and Bruton School for girls. Two particularly good local prep schools are All Hallows and Hazlegrove and the nearby village of Upton Noble has a village school. Other notable schools in the area are Wells Cathedral School, Downside, Millfield, Strode Sixth Form College, Sherborne Schools and the Bath schools are also within easy reach.
