Castle Cary is a bustling town with many attractive and historic buildings including its C19th Market house and the C18th Roundhouse. The main street offers an assortment of individual shops, cafes and restaurants, a delicatessen, a wine shop and a contemporary art gallery. Market day falls on a Tuesday where fish, organic vegetables and homemade breads are sold on the cobbles in front of the Market House. The Newt in Somerset has recently opened nearby.  A recent article in the Telegraph quoted 'The Newt is one of the most exceptional country house hotels Britain has seen'. The gardens are open to the public and visitors are welcome to walk through amazing woodland gardens and to dine in the restaurants and cafes. 

Large supermarkets are located in the towns of Wincanton and Shepton Mallet which are both a short drive away and the fashionable town of Bruton is also very close by. Bruton is a popular town in the heart of the Somerset countryside. It has several well-known restaurants, pubs and bars including “At the Chapel”, “Osip” and “The Roth Bar” at the world-renowned Hauser & Wirth Gallery. The town also has a doctors’ surgery, pharmacy, vet, post office, several mini supermarkets, fuel station and numerous independent shops.  For further shopping and recreational activities Frome, Bath, Bristol, Wells, Salisbury and Wells are all within easy driving distance.  


Castle Cary has a primary school and Ansford secondary school. There are excellent local independent schools nearby including King’s School Bruton, Bruton School for Girls and also the state owned boarding school - Sexey's, and in close proximity are Millfield, Hazelgrove and All Hallows prep schools.


The A303 a few miles south provides a direct route to London via the M3 and there is a mainline rail service from Castle Cary to London Paddington (under 2 hours) and also the new train to Waterloo.  Airports in Bristol and Exeter offer connections within the UK, Europe and beyond.

From the A371 take the turning for Castle Cary (North Street).  Continue down the hill into the centre of town.  From the High Street take the right fork into Bailey Hill and, from the square, Florida Street will be at the top corner.  Turn into  Florida Street and Lodge View will be found a little way along on the right hand side.
