No 2 The Retreat is a charming cottage dating back to 1870 - formerly part of the Longleat Estate these properties were originally built for the workers of the Mill. This family home is tucked away in a quiet location on the edge of the fashionable town of Frome but close enough to be able to walk to the centre.
The heart of this home is the kitchen/diner with beautiful handcrafted units made by a local master craftsman. The wooden floor boards throughout provide underfloor heating and there is plenty of room for a dining table. A sizeable sitting room, with woodburner, is a perfect space to relax and unwind and overlooks a pretty terrace and the garden beyond. Upstairs are three double bedrooms with a family bathroom and a further bedroom has been cleverly created using the attic space.
The garden is accessed via the sitting room door and leads out onto a terraced area perfect for dining and entertaining. The garden, approximately 33 metres in length, includes mature shrubs, fruit trees and a vegetable plot. At the end of the garden the owners have built a studio – a perfect hideaway which could be used as an office space or further storage.
Frome is a five-minute walk and is home to a comprehensive choice of retail outlets and all the usual amenities. Founded in 2013 the “Frome Independent” is an award-winning street market that is held on the first Sunday of each month and attracts up to 80,000 people per year. The equally fashionable town of Bruton is a fifteen-minute drive and is home to the renowned art Gallery Hauser and Wirth and the restaurant “At the Chapel” and the fabulous country mansion, Babington House, is a few miles away. The larger and beautiful City of Bath is approximately 35 minutes north and offers a plethora of culture and history. Transport links are excellent with a mainline railway from Frome or Castle Cary to London Paddington and Bristol Airport is approximately 45 minutes to the west.
Frome offers plenty of good state primary and secondary schools including the well-known Steiner Academy. Private schools include All Hallows Prep, Downside, Kings Bruton and the Bath schools, Prior Park, Monkton Combe and King Edwards to name just a few.
From Frome town centre take the A362 Portway - pass the Train Station on your right and then take the next right hand turn followed by the first left hand turning and Number 2 will be found on your left.
