Glastonbury is a town that is steeped in history going back to the legends of King Arthur. There was a Celtic monastery here in 500AD, which during the next 1000 years evolved into one of England’s wealthiest and influential Abbeys. The magnificent Glastonbury Abbey ruins and the famous Glastonbury Tor attract tourists to the town and so although small, it is a thriving town and it is well served by markets and a huge range of festivities. It is one of the few towns that has managed to shun many of the main chain stores whilst still providing all the necessary shops, restaurants, cafes, doctors, pharmacies, dentists, a wealth of clubs and sporting facilities and supermarkets.



Glastonbury is about 9 miles from Castle Cary Railway Station, which has mainline rail service from Castle Cary to London (Paddington) in circa 2 hours. Bristol and Exeter Airports are both within about 1 hour’s drive offering connections around the UK, Europe and to other destinations.



In nearby Street there are two swimming pools in Street, one to be found at the Sports Centre and the hugely popular outdoor Lido on the High Street with its lovely grassy areas for picnics. The Strode Theatre offers excellent live performances as well as films and exhibitions.



The ancient Cathedral city of Wells is only eight miles away and offers all the usual amenities of a thriving market town; twice weekly markets, plenty of coffee shops and restaurants, local supermarkets include Waitrose, Morrisons and Tesco. Wells has a thriving cultural scene with the concerts from the Cathedral School to regular art gallery events and the very well attended Wells Literature Festival and Food Festival. The popular village of Wedmore is approx. 6 miles away and a further drive away is the very fashionable small town of Bruton which has the very popular restaurant/coffee/bread shop called ‘At the Chapel’ and the world famous Hauser and Wirth Art Gallery.

The area is well positioned for schools with its own primary school in Meare itself as well as being with a short drive of Millfield prep and senior schools.
